"The Kite Runner" is a novel by the author Khaled Hosseini, tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the district of Kabul, who betrayed his best friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant but lives in regret. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet Union, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime. The Kite Runner is about friendship, betrayal, and the price of loyalty was adapted into a film with the same name in 2007.

"Khaled HOSSEINI" was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965 is also a medical doctor an internist. While in medical practice, Hosseini began writing his first novel, The Kite Runner, in March of 2001. In 2003, The Kite Runner, was published and has since become an international bestseller, published in 48 countries. In 2006 he was named a goodwill envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency. His second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns was published in May of 2007. Currently, A Thousand Splendid Suns is published in 25 countries. He lives in northern California.
